Denim and Dust meets - Martinsburg Journal

Submitted photo October began the 4-H year where the Denim and Dust 4-H club held its first meeting. We elected our new officers and they include, Ashley Ritt, president; Allexis Canby, vice president; Hope Adams, treasurer; Faith Butts, secretary; and Adrianna Dunbar, reporter. As well as, Trace Adams and Abigail Paugh as historians; Joseph Brumbaugh and Essence Cook Brill, health officers; Tanner Adams, song and pledge leader; and lastly, Joseph Lynch and Tristen Wilson as How How leaders. The club planned its community service activities, citizenship, and monthly duties calendar. At the November meeting, Essence and Joseph gave a health officers report on the importance of dental hygiene and passed out toothbrushes and toothpaste to the club. Kara Gladden, this being her second year with a cooking project, spoke about cooking and baking. She also taught us about safety in the kitchen. Mallorie Rudy spoke about her hog, and performed a demonstration to show what she used to feed her hog to keep weight on. Abbey Brumbaugh gave a talk on her cat, how she rescued it, and how she is excited to be showing her cat for the first time. Joseph Lynch talked about properly bathing his pig and how to get it ready for the Berkeley County Youth Fair Hog Show. Our new member, Kaitlyn DeVoll, won the junior poster competition for the Health Department. The competition was about, ‘Why Immunizations are Important.’ She won a Kindle Fire. The club also planned its holiday open house in January and began a food drive for the local food pantry. Club members are selling raffle tickets for one half of a butchered hog, the proceeds will go to ‘Christmas for the Kids of the West Virginia Floods.’ To purchase tickets, contact a Denim and Dust club member, the drawing is Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. To conclude the meeting, the club signed more than 616 cards for our military who are serving our country during the Christmas holiday.
