Denim Day rallies community support for local cancer patients - Herald Review

It’s a simple gesture with a powerful impact: Wear jeans to work for a small donation, and provide meaningful support for local Essentia Health cancer patients. Now in its third year, the Deer River Area Health Care Foundation’s Denim Day provides an opportunity for community members to give locally and support patients when they need it most. What began in 2014 as a fundraiser for breast cancer patients has now expanded to a community-wide event to support all local Essentia Health cancer patients.

The event continues to grow each year, with participating businesses and schools across Itasca County and beyond. Funds raised are used to create care packages including items such as gas cards, meal cards, cancer resources and other items that are greatly needed during a time of fear and uncertainty.

“Each year we are so touched by the response of our local business community, individuals, schools, and organizations who give so generously. Denim Day is a simple, yet impactful way to support our community members during their cancer treatment and recovery, and we’re honored to be able to provide this resource when it’s needed,” said Leah Oslin, director of development.

The Deer River Area Health Care Foundation was established in 2012 with the mission of advancing health and wellness in the Deer River area through support of Essentia Health-Deer River and other initiatives for the community’s health.
