Ryan Lochte Is Still Working Through His Denim Issues on Morning TV - GQ Magazine

Derek Storm / Splash News

Ryan Lochte had an eventful October. He got engaged to his girlfriend while overlooking the ocean in Malibu, dressed up as the world’s freakiest clown for Halloween, then got eliminated from Dancing with the Stars after eight weeks of high-intensity, shirtless dancing. Today he and his dance partner, Cheryl Burke, appeared on Good Morning America to talk about the loss, and unfortunately Lochte didn’t exactly knock it out of the park with his choice of attire.

When Lochte appeared on GMA in August, we raised an eyebrow at his oversized jeans and oddly formal shirt and shoes. This time he had the opposite problem. His jeans were skater-kid tight and shredded at the knees, and he wore Yeezys and a black T-shirt as if he were running errands on a Sunday afternoon. Top that off with the fact that he was clearly cold in the 50-degree weather, and was dressed more like a Hot Topic–loving angsty teenager than a 32-year-old Olympic athlete.

Good Morning America has something like 4.5 million viewers and caters to folks in the 25-to-54 range, so it's more a place for heritage outerwear, good-quality knitwear, and modern suiting. Lochte was humble and charming in the interview and is a handsome dude, but he definitely missed the mark here.

Bottom line: Don’t wear your favorite outfit on your mom’s favorite TV show.
