Only a week after People confirmed the news of 20-year-old Kylie Jenner's pregnancy with boyfriend Travis Scott, the rapper has announced his collaboration with Australian denim brand Ksubi.
"I’ve been wearing Ksubi since before the opportunity came to collaborate,” Scott told Vogue of the collaboration. “That shit is dope. Dumb crazy. It makes you feel like you’re in an action movie.”
Since the brand released 252 rats onto the Sydney runway for shock factor at their first fashion show back in 2001, the 17-year-old denim line--which has fostered a loyal rapper following in recent years with avid wearers like The Weeknd and Lil Yachty, amongst others--has always been into doing things differently, and this collaboration is no exception.
As his first capsule collection and a desire to "really deconstruct this shit," Scott's line is a tattered, artistic mess with vigorous nods to his hometown of Houston, Texas. There's baggy, shredded jeans with torn up double pockets, tees with a hand-drawn eagle (Scott's symbol) on the chest and sketched-out skulls with Ksubi's boxed cross on the front of others, nylon bombers and hoodies accented with moth-eaten style holes.
“Distressed jeans are a sign you’ve been through some shit, more so than a clean jean,” Scott said. “I just wanted to keep it Texas culture—just real simple. Ready-to-wear dope shit. I just drew on the shit. Just fucking around.”
Of course, this isn't the first designer collaboration Scott has done. Earlier this year the rapper launched his freshman Helmut Lang collection alongside new creative director Shane Oliver (formerly of street brand Hood By Air aka HBA), and even did two automotive merch lines: one with Toyota called "Hood Toyota" and the other with Harley Davidson.
“Certain brands cater to the culture,” Scott says. “Sometimes clothes make it through generations of artists, and it’s just because the designer is designing to the time and the culture. That’s what I think is dope about brands [like Ksubi]: It’s dope when a brand can captivate what’s going on with kids—it’s not out of touch. With or without me.”
Travis Scott x Ksubi will be available online and at select Ksubi stores starting Oct.12.
