Bella Hadid lives in denim, but she continues to keep this all-American classic fresh with untraditional interpretations. There was that blue jean Dior bustier dress she took out on the town in New York. And those shorts-meets-skinny-jeans hybrid by Kiev-based designer Ksenia Schnaider that she wore on a recent evening in Paris. Now back stateside, Hadid is mixing it up again in a denim tuxedo with a twist, as seen yesterday on the streets of Manhattan. This time, she chose a set of flares dotted with grommet embellishments and a Rolling Stones-style lip kiss patch—proof that even the most standard of wardrobe staples can be given new life with extra details and maybe a little DIY-ing.
A tapered jean silhouette would have worked just as well, but the cropped flare hem was more unexpected, not to mention all the better for putting a major pair of creeper boots on full display. Her henley sweater was matched to the corduroy lining on her Fear of God denim jacket. While her outerwear was technically from the men’s side of the store, the look lent the shoulders and sleeves a roomy feel for a fun play on proportions that contrasted nicely with her fitted trousers. She extended the ’70s rocker mood to tinted sunglasses, which rounded out her off-duty ensemble with a final dose of cool blues.
