Rodeo Foundation Denim Drive 2018 underway - KOLO

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - A Kick-off FUNdraiser to celebrate the 12th annual Denim Drive will take place Sunday, Nov. 18 from 4-8 p.m. at Bundox Bocce.

The event, promoted by KBUL 98.1, will feature live country music, a 50/50 raffle and bocce play in support of the annual Denim Drive, which runs through December 31. Tickets are $9.81 and include bocce play. One hundred percent of the proceeds from both tickets and the 50/50 raffle will go directly to benefit kids in need in our region.

“The event is a fun and exciting way for people to make an impact within their own community,” says Jeff Turnipseed, President of the Reno Rodeo Foundation. “It may be one small gift, but it makes a huge difference to these children who have survived circumstances most of us can’t even imagine.”

The Kick-off FUNdraiser, presented by the Associated General Contractors of Nevada and Jaguar/Land Rover of Reno, will feature a live acoustic performance by country recording artist Riley Green with Andi Kilgore.

Through December 31, more than 100 locations will host donation bins to collect new jeans, new socks, new shirts and new underwear to be given to abused and neglected infants, children and teens who have been rescued from unsafe homes. An interactive map with all donation locations can be accessed here.

Donors can also donate a “Dollar for Denim” at Famous Dave’s, Plumas Bank and all Papa Murphy’s locations and Nevada State Bank branches through Northern Nevada with 100 percent of every dollar donated used to purchase additional new clothing throughout the year. Famous Dave’s is giving away a $5 gift certificate for every customer who brings in a clothing items or donates $10 for the “Dollar for Denim” throughout the entire drive.

“Over the past 12 years, the Denim Drive has provided comfort to more than 40,000 infants, children, and teens with essentials of new clothing and this year we will purchase new books,” explains Clara Andriola, Reno Rodeo Foundation executive director. “These donations create a frame of mind. Giving new clothes to a child as they begin their foster care journey or a new book for a child attending family court proceedings in Washoe County offers a sense of well-being and comfort and sends a deeper message that someone cares about them.”

Donors can also make monetary donations online via PayPal on the Reno Rodeo Foundation website in addition to making donations over the phone or by mailing a check to the Reno Rodeo Foundation.
