Wear jeans or a formal gown to Saturday’s Second Annual Denim & Diamonds dinner dance Saturday. Whether you bling it out or dial it down, those in attendance are sure to enjoy a fun-filled night.

“Our thought process was, people can either dress up or dress down,” said Andrea “Annie” Hepburn, senior center director.

She said the idea is to allow people to wear whatever they feel comfortable wearing, and just have a fun night out.

The event is one of Alpena Senior Citizens Center’s main fundraisers to cover costs of programs and operations throughout the year. Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. at the Alpena Knights of Columbus Hall, 1880 Hamilton Road.

For the second year in a row, Wayne Kendziorski & The KopyKatz will take the stage to entertain guests from 7 to 11 p.m.

“He really gets the crowd going, energized,” Hepburn said of Kendziorski. “He’s amazing. I couldn’t believe it. He has a following.”

Tickets are $40 per person. There will be a cash bar, 50/50 raffle, Chinese raffle and silent and live auctions.

Tickets for the 50/50 raffle are on sale now for $10 apiece at the senior center.

Alpena Senior Citizens Center serves seniors throughout Alpena County.

Hepburn is hoping for at least 200 people at this year’s event. About 175 attended last year’s Denim & Diamonds.

She said all proceeds will go toward services the center provides, including in-home services, Meals on Wheels and many other programs.

“We do get grant funding, but we don’t get enough grant funding to fund all of the programs,” Hepburn said. “So that’s why we have to do fundraisers, and Denim & Diamonds is one of our main ones.”

She said the event is for adults of all ages.

“I just encourage people to come out,” Hepburn said. “It’s fun for everybody. Last year we had a great crowd, and everybody had a great time, so we’re looking forward to it again this year.”
