Summer Fridays Founder And Mega Influencer Marianna Hewitt Launches Denim Collaboration With DL1961 - Forbes

Lifestyle blogger and influencer, Marianna Hewitt, has gained recognition for her entrepreneurial prowess as the cofounder of bestselling skincare brand, Summer Fridays, and this fall she can add another category to her repertoire: denim. Hewitt teamed up with sustainable denim brand DL1961 to design and create a capsule collection featuring 24 styles for the woman on the go.

The fall 2019 capsule collection, which launched exclusively at Nordstrom on September 12 and will be available at DL1961.com as well as other retailers at the end of the month, combines Hewitt’s effortless aesthetic and close interaction with a highly engaged audience of almost one million Instagram followers, with DL1961’s design and production expertise.

In true DL1961 fashion, the collection of denim, matching jackets, skirts, and tops are designed to be size inclusive. Every piece mindfully uses unique fibers and technology to reduce the usage of water, energy and chemicals during manufacturing, with the ultimate goal of a gentler environmental impact.

On a wider scale, the partnership brings together two women at the helm of their businesses: Hewitt and the CEO of DL1961, Zahra Ahmed.

Although Hewitt is widely recognized for her wellness and beauty content on her lifestyle website, LifeWithMe.com, there is also a high focus on fashion and travel on her site, so pivoting into denim was a natural fit.

“I live in denim from day to night, and no matter where I go – from meetings to events to traveling – denim is my ideal go-to piece,” Hewitt explains. “I love the brand DL1961 because of what it stands for. Its fabrics, fits and the fact that their clothing is sustainably made. Zahra (Ahmed) had given me a pair of jeans and said, ‘These are so comfortable, you can fly in them,’ and she was right!”

Hewitt was first introduced to DL1961 when the brand had collaborated with Jessica Alba in 2016. After a few years of rocking DL1961’s jeans, Hewitt joined forces with the brand in the summer of 2018 to start the year-long creation process (from vision and design to launch).

Ahmed adds: “When we first met, one of the reasons why I thought it was such a great match and partnership is that we're so aligned — whether it's about being sustainable or being inclusive. We believe in these points so much at DL, which is why we really put those as the core tenants of our brand. And then similarly, when we met Marianna and saw what she's doing with her business, and really sharing her message, it was the exact same thing. So it didn't matter what the product was. Our core beliefs were the same and that presents itself in the product and how people are responding to it.”
