Aw Fashion :Denim Choker Revolution - Jamaica Observer

The ‘90s fashion trend of the choker has resurfaced and reached such a level of prevalence that it has been ‘man-ified’, ‘tripled up’ and ‘mommy-and-me’d’. Fashion designer and store owner Devarine ‘Fashionenira’ McLean adds her own twist to this latest craze with her crafty collection of hand-made denim chokers. “Chokers are trending right now, and as a retailer I always try to keep up and add my flavour to the movement; I’ve always had the idea of denim chokers in mind but didn’t get the motivation until Kim Kardashian made it a thing,” shared the designer with

AWF as her reason for jumping on board the movement.

McLean, who was born in the US but raised in Jamaica, is a self-taught designer. She credits her mother, Pauline Welcome-McLean, who has been designing since the ‘70s for her foray in the industry.

The collection features seven styles: plain, light denim; plain, dark denim; black denim, dark and light distressed denim; buttoned denim; and the danger edition which is loaded with safety pins. The response to the denim chokers has been overwhelming. Little wonder really... they’re super stylish.

Fashionenira is located at Shop #15, Springs Plaza, Half Way Tree
