Spring's Best New Denim Will Be Worth the Inevitable Waitlist - Vogue.com

It may come as little surprise a brand born from The Line, Vanessa Traina’s immaculate store and e-comm site, would call to mind the chicest, sparest elements of the ’90s. Khaite is an offering of clothes that on some level makes you want to scrub your face of any makeup, pull your hair into a low chignon, and call it a day. In short, it’s a more casual take on the fluid, polished appeal of its sister brand, Protagonist.

It was the Mediterranean founder and creative director Catherine Holstein turned to for the line’s sophomore season. Tired of overstuffed luggage, Holstein set about creating pieces destined for travel. All garments in the collection style easily back to one another, down to Khaite’s debut eyewear, two shapes of sunglasses produced at an Italian factory.

With cashmere at the core of the brand’s DNA (its waitlist-inspiring denim program just as much so), the challenge was translating Khaite’s aesthetic for the warmer months.

New for Spring are gorgeous, lightweight viscose knits and plenty of universally flattering cuts, like full skirts in crisp, sheeny poplin with contrasting top stitching. Khaite’s first jeans styles, like the high-waisted Vanessa cut, sold out in preorder and inspired quite the waitlist. For Spring, they’ll be reworked in a creamy ivory wash, along with a matching denim jacket. Of course, what’s life without just a little cashmere, even in Spring? Holstein proposed a gorgeous pullover with an open back and bow closures. You’ll find that and the rest of Khaite’s Spring offering at The Line, and other locations TBD; the brand debuts wholesale this season, too.
