Denim Drive kicks off Monday - KOLO

RENO, Nev. - (KOLO) The Reno Rodeo Foundation's Denim Drive kicks off on Monday. The annual clothing drive helps thousands of kids in the foster care system.

"A lot of times when these children are taken from a home they have nothing but the clothes on their backs," said Clara Andriola, Executive Director of the Reno Rodeo Foundation. "So having these new clothes lends a sense of newness as they begin their foster care journey."

You can donate new jeans, shirts, socks and underwear at Scolari's Food & Drug, Nevada State Banks and Papa Murphy's Pizza locations throughout Northern Nevada. This is the tenth year for the drive and Papa Murphy's has been a partner since the beginning.

"It's a great way to help the community get involved and give something back," said Papa Murphy's owner Ron Thoreson. "We have fifteen stores in the area and this is a way we can all give back."

There's also an option to make monetary donations at these locations. If you donate $5 at a Papa Murphy's location, you'll receive a free container of cookie dough.

"The donations are so important because it allows us to pick out clothes in the sizes needed for a particular child," Andriola said. "Last year we raised $135,000 and we're hoping to beat that this year because the number of kids in need has increased."

All donations stay in the county they were donated in; the Denim Drive runs through the end of the year.
