Lara Stone Teams Up With Frame for a Supermodel Denim Collection - Vogue.com

Lara Stone is the archetypal bombshell, a woman who exudes Brigitte Bardot levels of sex appeal in front of the camera. In person, however, the Dutch supermodel is much more of a jeans and T-shirt gal than one would imagine, and it’s that side of Stone—what you might call the real her—that comes through with her brand-new collection for Frame, launching this Wednesday. “I think my personal style is quite simple,” says Stone, who’s dressed in a sample pair of her black skinny jeans and a white henley on the set of her Vogue.com video shoot. “I’m usually happiest in some jeans and a hoodie, and that’s what I brought to the collection.”

Stone was a natural fit for Frame, a denim label known for its high-profile insider fashion collaborations; Frame founders Erik Torstensson and Jens Grede have called on the likes of Karlie Kloss, Inez van Lamsweerde, and Vinoodh Matadin to collaborate in the past. “Frame is very much an expression of who Jens and I are. We’ve always been in the fashion industry in many different ways, through our magazine, Industrie; our agency; and other companies. When you finally have your own brand you can use that to have a lot of fun with your friends in a weird way,” says Torstensson, who first met Stone in 2008. “We thought, ‘Why not make a few pieces with Lara and we’ll have fun and do a little shoot?’ ”

The resulting nine-piece capsule collection includes everything from Stone’s takes on skinny jeans and denim miniskirts to hoodies and bomber jackets, all that range in price from $179 to $349. “It all came about when I decided that there are not enough clothes that have my name on them,” says Stone, whose collection comes emblazoned with cheeky slogans that riff off the idea of the monogram; she coined the nickname “Livid Lara” that’s printed across a long-sleeved shirt. Still, when it came to styling the collection, Stone did look beyond herself toward a certain well-dressed supermodel for inspiration, too. “I think my denim style icon is probably Kate [Moss], for obvious reasons,” she says smiling. “You know, everything from her first denim ads to her always in her skinny jeans is great.” That said, there are certain aspects of the collection that have Stone’s name all over them in more ways than one. “The most exciting and the most difficult part [of the collaboration] involves orange. I love orange,” says Stone, who has been known to flaunt the Dutch national color from head to toe. “Everyone else doesn’t love orange.” Is orange poised to be the new black? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, the future for your denim closet jut got that much brighter.
