Overalls—the utilitarian staple beloved by farmers, railroad conductors, and the occasional toddler—may not conjure up the most alluring mental image. But leave it to Selena Gomez to take the no-frills uniform and give it a makeover. When Gomez went for a stroll earlier today in Los Angeles, she put on a pair of vintage Wranglers and showed that the retro look may be primed for a chic comeback.
Creating a body-hugging line is tough for overalls, but the Wranglers did give Gomez a waist. The button-front closure, too, was reminiscent of the similarly appealing button-fly jeans, while the kicky flare hem gave off a clear ’70s vibe. The most crucial element was her skin-colored bodice top, which helped create a mashup of naughty and nice. As for accessories, a Louis Vuitton messenger bag and peep-toe sandals were all she needed to elevate her down-home denim.
