Denim footwear is showing no signs of slowing down.
Converse debuted a new variation of its Renew Denim Collection, this time featuring a multi-colored Chuck 70 comprised of dark blue, light blue and black denim washes—all of which are crafted from upcycled denim.
As part of its sustainable collection, the footwear brand works with vintage retailer Beyond Retro to sort through more than one million pairs of jeans each month and separate denim by color—making each pair of Converse Renew Denim Tri Panel Chuck 70s unique. From there, the fabric is butterfly-cut and used to construct the upper panel, medial panel, tongue and lateral panel. In line with the collection’s emphasis on upcycling, the shoe’s upper lining and laces are made from recycled polyester.
The Converse Renew Tri Panel Denim Chuck 70 is available in China on Sept. 27 and in North America on Oct. 3 exclusively on the Converse website.
Converse’s Renew Denim Collection first debuted in August with two different styles—the Chuck 70 High and the Ox Low—available in a light, medium or dark wash. It’s part of the brand’s Renew Initiative that features styles made of upcycled PET plastic collected from the world’s oceans.
Up next for Converse’s sustainable collection is Renew Cotton, a line that will launch in Spring 2020 and use the company’s own waste from its canvas styles to form a recycled cotton and polyester fabric to use in future products.
