Maurices Collects More Than 35k Pairs of Jean in Denim Drive - Sourcing Journal

Women’s specialty apparel retailer Maurices is in the business of supplying women with inclusively sized clothing at an affordable price and giving back to the community in big ways.

The retailer announced that its customers donated more than 35,000 pairs of jeans to its denim drive, a first-annual initiative that kicked off Aug. 26. Jeans were then donated to local nonprofits in 900 North American communities in which the retailer operates.

From Aug. 26 through Sept. 9, Maurices’ locations across the U.S. and Canada accepted gently worn jeans from customers in exchange for 25 percent off their total regularly priced in-store purchase.

On Sept. 19, a day the retailer named “Grand Give” day, jeans were dispersed to the local charities of each location’s choice, and its home offices closed to give associates time to volunteer.

“We’re deeply committed to giving back to the communities in which we operate,” Maurices president and CEO George Goldfarb said in a statement. “As part of our ongoing commitment to listening to our customer, we know that partnering with local community organizations that support women and children is most important to her. We’re thrilled to partner with our customers to make it easy to give back, and we’re very pleased with the results of our initial Denim Drive.”
