Chanel and denim went hand in hand at Paris Fashion Week.
Fashion show attendees paired uptown girl tweed blazers and ladylike knits with denim of the downtown variety, including baggy jeans by Martine Rose and deconstructed pieces by Sacai. Others opted for more classic fits like straight leg black jeans with a single cuff and slim ankle-skimming blue jeans.
Chanel quilted handbags with chain straps, costume jewelry, sunglasses and even a double C bandana were among the accountrements that added a glammed-up vibe to the high-low look.
Flashes of ’80s styling peeked through. Acid wash front-yoke jeans were worn with a retro puffed-sleeve pastel top. A ruffled one-shoulder blouse worthy of Dynasty added drama to a pair of light-wash jeans. A denim Trucker jacket was worn tucked into a pair of slouchy pleated navy trousers.
Covering a turtleneck top, a wide-lapel denim trench cinched shut with a belt adorned with bold metal hardware.
Fashion week goers also previewed an emerging silhouette, the flare jean with a slit hem. The ’70s-inspired jean proved its duality draped over boots and sneakers. The jean looked retro with a silk print blouse and chain belt, and edgy with a logo-embellished knit. The long pant (which was sometimes exaggerated) was a sharp contrast from the slew of cropped and rolled jeans that have permeated women’s denim for several seasons.
