Air Jordan and Levi's Made Some Denim-Adorned Jordan 4s - GQ Magazine

There's also a reversible denim jacket to celebrate the brand-new collab.

You don't need us—or James Dean or Ryan Gosling or A$AP Rocky—to sell you on wearing denim. But wearing shoes made of the tried-and-true fabric has never really caught on with the average guy. Even among sneakerheads, denim kicks are a divisive topic—some love the All-American look, while others shudder at the thought of wearing sneakers that resemble a pair of jeans. That didn't Jordan Brand and Levi’s from diving in jeans-first for a denim-heavy collaboration, though. While the Wild West vibe isn’t for everybody, if you’re looking to get in touch with your inner cowboy, this isn’t a bad place to start.

The two iconic labels have teamed up on a denim-covered version of the Air Jordan IV and a reversible, co-branded Levi’s trucker jacket. The classic basketball sneaker is given the full blue jeans treatment: a standard wash on the upper and reversed denim on the insole, and it's finished off with a premium gum outsole. Other details include gold stitching, indigo-colored laces, and the addition of an instantly recognizable Levi’s tab. For the jacket, the duo took a similar hoops-meets-Americana approach by mixing classic Levi’s craftsmanship with the bold red “Flight Suit” material stitched into the underarm panels. (The Jordan Flight Suit is the colorful sportswear staple that Michael Jordan made famous back in the day.)

And just like your favorite pair of jeans, the limited-edition sneaker and jacket are designed to get better with age. The more you wear them, the more the denim will slowly crease (normally a Jordan nightmare) and fade which will give your kicks a one-of-a-kind feel. Just because footwear made of Bruce Springsteen’s favorite fabric has never quite caught on with the sneaker world doesn’t mean you should be afraid to give the look a shot. One word of advice: don’t wear denim sneakers with jeans unless you’re going for the literal head-to-toe Canadian tux—which is a macho style move, to say the least.

The Jordan x Levi’s Air Jordan IV and Jordan Reversible Trucker Jacket release Jan. 17 via select retailers. (Full list of shops here.)
